Getting there is perhaps easiest if you rent a car from one of the many Perth Airport Car rental kiosks found in the terminal building. Even if you haven’t pre-booked, securing a car is a very simple process and you will be underway in no time.
Much has changed in Perth and Western Australia over the last couple of decades. Perth itself has grown into a thoroughly modern city, with many attractions for tourists. But there are plenty of things to do outside the city limits as well and car hire affords you the independence to visit these attractions at your leisure.
Airport car rental is perhaps the easiest way to secure a vehicle but depots are found throughout Perth. Once you have your vehicle, it’s time to explore the beauty of Western Australia, with standouts including the coastal town of Margaret River. Here you can surf, swim, mountain bike, rock climb or explore the Limestone caves in the area. Western Australia is also home to a number of magnificent national parks including Karijini, Purnululu and Ningaloo Reef Marine Park.
Car rental is easily the best way to cover the large distances you will need to travel to take these incredible sites in.
Choosing your car
On landing, you can find a number of Perth Airport car rental kiosks right in the terminal while others are found in the airport complex itself. If you have pre-booked, make sure you know exactly where to pick up the keys and the vehicle and where to park on your return.
You have a wide range of car rental companies to choose from including all the worldwide brands such as Budget, Hertz and Europcar, so make sure you find the best deal.
And vehicle types? Well, anything you need really, from small, fuel-efficient sedans, to luxury cars as well as SUV’s and vehicles to transport groups of six to twelve people or more, such as mini-vans and people movers for big families and group travel.
Tips and advice
The trip from Perth International into the city is short and should take around 20 mins. Getting out of the airport and onto National Highway 94 can be tricky, so use a GPS.
If you plan to visit the CBD, be prepared to pay a fair amount for parking. You can park in the streets of the city but finding a space can be difficult. Note, most of these are metered bays as well with limited parking times.
You have to be 21 years or older to be able to rent a car in Australia. When booking your vehicle, some rental agencies may impose a higher age requirement.
Make sure you know the fuel rules applied by the rental car company for the vehicle you have hired.
Obey traffic rules at all times. They are strictly enforced.
Western Australia is vast and you will likely be covering large distances. In remote areas, keep an eye out for animals wandering on or near the road
