About Suva International Airport (SUV)
Address: Airport Terminal, Suva
Nausori International Airport (SUV) is located in Nausori on the south-eastern side of Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu. (SUV) is situated approximately 23 km (14 miles) from the capital city of Suva, and the airport car rental counters of Avis, Budget, Hertz, and Eurpocar are found within the terminal.
Driving is the preferred method of transportation for visitors to Viti Levu. The island’s highway infrastructure consists of one main 545-km (338-mile) circular route around the island — Queens/Kings Road — providing nearly foolproof navigation. It’s not until you venture off the highway into remote areas that you may have trouble getting around. If you’re planning to use your car hire to explore the interior, bear in mind: there may be times when your GPS doesn’t even know where you are.
Overall, traffic in central Suva could hardly be considered hectic, but congestion is common at peak times. The national speed limit in Fiji is 80 km/h on highways, 60 km/h on Interior roads, and drops to 50 km/h as you encroach villages. The roads in Fiji are in fair to so-so condition, so potholes are very common — added incentive to keep an eye on your speedometer and go easy on the gas pedal.
Vehicles travel on the left side of the road. There are no toll roads in Fiji. Parking is definitely not a problem. However, one thing to note: Because most Fijians don’t own a car, pedestrians tend to be blissfully unaware of their surroundings when crossing in traffic. Be prepared to stop for jaywalkers — regardless of traffic indicators. Likewise, animals are frequently using the roads, too.
Choosing your car
Choosing your car hire in Fiji should be as easy as getting around the island itself. Keep in mind that you won’t have the same selection of vehicles that you’d see in, say, Los Angeles. Nevertheless, there are plenty of (SUV) airport car rentals to suit just about any island travel itinerary. The compact Toyota sedan has room for four passengers. You’ll find a 4-door Perodua economy sedan that seats five The Volkswagen intermediate has more space for luggage and bigger bodies. Hyundai 7-9 seater minivans are essential for families and groups. If you’re planning to go off-road, the Jeep SUV has all-wheel drive and automatic transmission, for performance and ease.
Tips and advice

Driving the interior roads is not necessarily dangerous per se; it just comes with an added set of risks.
The island’s main freeway orbital is called Queens Road in the south and west near Suva and Nadi, and Kings Road in the north and east.
The best beaches are found in Lautoka and Nadi on the northern coast, a 218-km (135 mi) drive from Suva Airport.
Theoretically, you could circle the island by car in approximately 8-9 hours, but given the unpredictability of both weather and traffic conditions, this is not recommended.
Fuel stations are clustered in Suva and Nadi, with only a couple of stations at Naku in the interior, and more importantly, non-existent on the northeast coast. Petrol prices are surprisingly in line with international standards.
