About Hannover Airport (HAJ)
Address: Flughafenstr./mietwagenzentrum, Hannover, 30669
Situated in the province of Lower Saxony, Hannover Airport serves the city of Hannover and the northwestern region of Germany.
While just the ninth biggest airport in the country, it serves an important entry point into the northern part of Germany and serves over 6 million customers per year. Interestingly it is one of Germany’s only 24-hour airports.
Situated just 11 kilometres from the city centre itself, Hannover Airport car rental companies include Enterprise, Budget and Hertz plus many more. And car hire provides the best way to get from the airport to your hotel, especially as it can be pre-booked well in advance.
Once you have secured your pre-booked car rental from your chosen provider, getting to the city is easiest by taking the B522 highway although there are two other routes.
While Hannover provides plenty of attractions if you are spending some time in the city, consider day trip excursions especially if you rent a car. And that might mean visiting other German cities that are nearby, for example, Hamburg, just 136 kilometres away.
Or treat yourself to a tour of some of the smaller towns in Lower Saxony. Goslar, Luneberg and Celle are all worth taking some time out to explore. In Goslar, for example, you will find a town that retains its medieval charm, thanks to its beautiful half-wooden houses.
But each of these smaller towns has their own unique charms and attractions, it just takes an intrepid tourist and an adventurous spirit to find them.
Choosing your car
When prebooking your Hannover Airport car rentals in advance, you not only secure cheaper rates but peace of mind in the fact that you know when you land, your vehicle is ready and waiting for you.
And no matter what you need, airport car rental has a sedan, SUV or people carrier that fits the bill. A range of vehicles such as minivans are able to carry anything up to 12 people means safe, secure transport for the duration of your trip.
Seeing that you are in Germany, most of your rental options are from German manufacturers but others such as Renault, Peugeot, Ford and SEAT are available.
Tips and advice
Road signs in Germany use an easily recognized international system. Most will be in German, however.
Urban areas near schools will have speeds of 30 kilometres per hour very strictly enforced. Take note!
Timed parking disks are available through rental car companies to be used for city parking. Enquire about these if you do not receive them.
German autobahns (freeways) have no speed limit. They are not raceways however and you can easily be fined if travelling too fast and deemed to be a danger to others.
The left lane of the autobahn is only for overtaking. Only use it when doing so.
Some urban areas, such as in and around schools have a strictly enforced speed limit of just 30 kilometres per hour. Although it may seem slow, stick to it.
