About Malmö Airport (MMX)
Address: Sturup Car Rental Center Box 11, Malmo, 23032
Located towards the south of Sweden, the Malmö airport is the fourth busiest airport in the region. Originally known as the Sturup Airport, it was built to cater to seasonal and regional flights. It is 28 km away, at a 30 minutes drive, from the Malmö city center.
It is almost impossible to get public transport at the Malmö airport. There is no train service available from the airport to the city. If you take a taxi, it would be quite expensive. Hence car hire is the most convenient and easily accessible option.
Malmö Airport car rental agencies can be found next to the multi-storey car park area, opposite the airport terminal. If you need guidance, you can go to one of the information desks, which are open from 6:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. everyday.
At only 0.8 km from the airport, you can visit the Sturup Raceway. A bit further, at a distance of 9.7 km, you’ll find Johannamuseet, a cozy museum with many old bikes, cars, phones and fire engines on display. The Bokskogens Golf Club is also situated within the vicinity, only 9.3 km from the airport. It has a fancy clubhouse and a great course in spick-and-span condition.
It would be worthwhile to visit the Torup Castle as well, 11 km from the airport, to walk around and take photographs of its historical magnificence.
If you travel 30 km south, you’ll reach Skanör-Falsterbo, a beautiful place with white beaches and charming old houses.
Choosing your car
Free wifi is available at the airport as ‘Airport Guest’ network, so you can book your car rental online if you haven’t done so already. Browse our website, key in the dates for your car hire, confirm the rates, and make your booking. It is good to read through the terms and conditions for airport car rental.
You will find many options on our website to rent a car, and can choose a vehicle that suits your needs. If you are looking for straight city driving with minimal gear, you can go for a minicar or Toyota economy. If traveling with family, perhaps you’d like to consider an SUV or a minivan.
Tips and advice
Malmö has an oceanic climate, where rain is evenly distributed throughout the year. It is difficult to find a day without rain. The best time to go around the city is between March and May, when the climate is relatively clear and dry.
When you rent a car, keep in mind before getting onto the Øresund Bridge that it is a motorway, and it’s prohibited to stop the car there unless your car breaks down. There is no route providing public access to Peberholm Island, where the bridge and tunnel connect.
It would be good to carry a GPS with you, since it’s not possible to change your direction on the Øresund bridge after passing the last exit in Denmark.
While driving, be sure to wear your seatbelt at all times.
Keep your headlights switched on, set to a dipped beam, even during daytime.
Beware of the speed limits, which range from 110km/hr on main highways and 70 km/hr on the smaller roads.
