The City of San Antonio is one of the most populous cities in the United States, with over 1.5 million residents. It is also the oldest municipality in the state of Texas, with origins back to the Spanish empire. San Antonio is also part of the "Texas Triangle," which is a "megapolitain" area that also includes Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Austin. As one of the airports servicing this region of the country, it is a popular site for airport car rentals. The area is easier to navigate by car than public transportation, and this option gives you the flexibility to explore the great state of Texas.
Once you've picked up your rent a car at the San Antonio International Airport, it'll take you about 20 minutes in routine traffic to get to the downtown area of the city if you take US-281 S. This is a populous area that continues to grow, especially down the corridors of Interstates 10 and 35.
In San Antonio, you'll find plenty of things to explore in the city with your car hire - and that's not counting if you elect to travel a bit further and visit one of the other cities in the "Texas Triangle." If you're interested in history, you will find places to visit such as The Alamo and the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park with your San Antonio airport car rental. Those interested in exploring the beauty of San Antonio will find that the River Walk area is a world-renowned destination for shopping, restaurants, and general tourism. Thrill-seekers can visit the Six Flags Fiesta Texas for amusement park rides, including roller coasters such as Goliath.
Choosing your car
The car you choose when you're visiting San Antonio depends on both the number of people in your party and what you're planning on doing while visiting the area. If you have a large group, you may want to choose a minivan or SUV for your San Antonio International Airport car rental, which will also give you more luggage room. For smaller groups traveling across much of Texas may find it better to get a smaller economy sized vehicle that offers better gas mileage. Popular car rental agencies such as Sixt are located at the San Antonio International Airport.
